Brief Initial Rough Sketches

Initial Sketches
I intend to include a character that will act as a guide to the children, helping them understand how the Hive operates. I chose the bee as it is appropriate to the name of the building.  The bee will explain how the Hive works with a basic introduction about genres and how the books are sorted. I will hand illustrate my text for larger titles and also include illustrated diagrams/pictures. At the footer of the front and back page I will include the partnership logos. I aim to use a yellow/gold based colour palette to suit the theme of the Hive, but I will have to take into consideration the restriction of colours available to use.

My first activity involves the children using a map to locate certain areas of the Hive. A symbol/shape for each of the chosen locations will be listed and the map will then be used to guide the children to that area. Small fact boxes will be included on certain pages as a separate part from the activity.
The second activity asks the children to locate certain book titles using the library catalogue. Using the knowledge gained from the introduction to the library, the children can then use this to find the books. A smaller could involve finding the genre of famous titles, this can also be found using the catalogue.

The rear cover will include the Hive logo in a larger format with the partnership logos also enlarged at the bottom of the page. A summary of the project and the collaboration between the Children's Book Design students will be given. I also intend to include contact details, the address and the opening hours of the Hive.
