CBeebies I Can Cook Jelly Boats Recipe

The jelly boat recipe appealed to me the most as I thought it would be fun to illustrate. I began to think of a few visual concepts. My favourite idea focused on the grapes being pirates in the little orange jelly boat. I think this would appeal to five to seven year olds as the grapes have become animated little characters with a narrative. The visuals were produced using watercolours and then edited in Photoshop.

I incorporated the text provided by CBeebies as it is minimal and basic enough for my audience to understand. Each instruction is surrounded by a yellow and purple box matching the I Can Cook web pages’ colour palette. I also included a fact, this is given by one of the grape characters within a speech bubble. I feel children would take more notice to it as it is being told by the character. I feel the balance between text and visuals is appropriate for the intended audience.
